Case Study

This particular garden in Heywood, Manchester was designed and built for a young professional couple with two small children. They contacted us after a recommendation from a friend. The design brief for the garden was a soft play area for the children and a great place to entertain and enjoy the evening sun.
After we initially surveyed the garden it was apparent straight away that the garden was not safe and very unsightly. The garden was just a steep slope with no usable space. After the site was marked out the first job was to demolish the existing paving and walls and excavate to where necessary to make the areas level. Approximately 30 tons of soil and rubble was removed from the site.

We then had to erect the main posts to support the elevated deck and face of the retaining wall. |
| Both sweeping staircases were then formed with looks and practicality paramount as they were to become a focal feature of the garden. |
 |
The ground to first floor staircase was then constructed which was designed to lead your eye to the attractive herringbone face of the second level.
After much discussion and deliberation as to what to install on the first level we finally agreed on ‘lazy grass’ - a great product for a children’s play area. This versatile product is soft but hard wearing and requires no maintenance whatsoever.
The second level deck was fully constructed using tanalised timber which has a minimum 15 year guarantee. It was finished with reeded spindles to complete the contemporary look.

Ornamental steel railings were then installed to the top of retaining wall which meant that the garden would be safe for the children but also created a contrast to the natural wood used throughout the garden.
Fencing was erected towards the end of this project so that the lazy grass could be trapped underneath to give a seamless appearance.
